Remote tab missing in Computer properties

If you open My computer properties(which is also called System Properties), you can see various tabs on the top where you can configure different settings of your computer. One of the tabs is named ‘Remote’ where you can configure if users can do remote desktop connection (RDP) to this computer or not. We can also configure which users are permitted to connect through remote desktop and which users are not.  If remote desktop is enabled then Administrators are added by default to the group of users who can RDP to the computer.

But if you are not seeing Remote tab like below this posts explains you how to restore it back.

remote tab missing in my computer properties

The reason for remote tab missing in computer properties would be that terminal services may not be running on your computer. You can check the status of this service in Service  Management console which can be opened by running Services.msc from Run window.

If the service is not running, you need to put it back into running mode to restore the remote tab in My computer properties. If the start type of the service is set to manual then you can do this. But if the start type is set to Disable then you need to change the start type to Auto or Manual and then only you can start the service.  After this you would be able see remote tab in system properties window.

The above tip applies to XP and Server 2003. In Windows 7, the remote tab would appear even if the service is disabled. But users won’t be able to do TS to the computer. For more information on configuring this service read more here.  Starting or Stopping terminal services

Thanks for the info. I was facing this problem on my Server 2003 system and starting terminal service has fixed the issue.

In XP and server 2003, it’s terminal services. In win7 and server 2008 it’s remote desktop services.

You gotta wonder why the original poster neglected to mention the name of the service–especially since it’s called a different thing under a different version of Windows.

Maybe it’s just me but I’m tired of incompetence–at the origin (Microsoft) and among the scrambling masses trying to cope.
