When I logon to a users machine it initiates the sync. So now the next time that user logs on they see the sync for all of my offline files as well. How do I change this?

Looks like you are using Windows XP. Microsoft has provided a fix for this problem. Please check //support.microsoft.com/kb/811660

This is available as hotfix and also is available in XP Service pack 3(SP3). So if you install this SP3 package it would solve your problem. Please let me know if this solution has worked for you. Thanks for visiting the blog..

although documentation says "privileges for working with the network files and folders you make available offline remain the same whether you are connected to the network or working offline", we do notice that this is not true. Workers in offline phase seem to have more rights and are able to create folders and files were they are not supposed to have this right in the online mode. We work with XP professional. Is this a known bug or some configuration we don't know about? Any idea?

How can we see the privileges on a certain map when in offline mode? When we right click and go to properties we only see the properties of the network map, not of the user properties on that map.

    I have a environment containing Win 2008 R2, 2003 R2, Win 7 and XP systems.

A GPO applies folder redirection based on security groups for the Desktop and My Documents (Configured from Win 2003 R2 DC).

Folder redirection works fine for Win 7. Files are synchronized with the server and are available offline.

For Win XP, the files are synchronized with the server, but are unavailable when offline. The following error appears when I log on an XP machine without a network connection:

"\ServerFolderPersonalFolderDesktop is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have access permissions"

After selecting OK, the desktop is empty. If I attempt to access my documents, a similar error message appears.

In my test environment, no other GPOs are applied or inherited by the OU that contains this user. Within XP, if I navigate to Offline files under Folder options, there are checks on the following:
    Enable Offline Files
Synchronize all offline files before logging off
Display a reminder every 60 mins

Any idea what the problem might be?
